French campsites often offer caravans, mobile homes, and appartments as well as camping facilities. Many benefit from facilities that include pool, shop, restaurant, laundry, etc.

Many European visitors arrive by road. By car, Montpellier is about 9 hours from Calais, 6hrs Paris, 3.5 hrs Geneva, 3 hrs Barcelona, Italian (Mediterranean) border 3 hrs. The A75 motorway now links to Languedoc via the stunning Millau bridge. Roads in Languedoc are generally quiet. Even coastal roads in summer are less crowded than in most parts of the Mediterranean.

Economy flights, often at less than Euro 150 return, are available with BA, Easyjet, Ryanair and others. Coupled with a hire car, this may be a cheaper option for a couple. Of course, bringing your own car allows repatriation of more local wine.

Marseille, Nimes, Montpellier, Carcassonne, Toulouse and Perpignan are served by direct flights from various European airports. A wider choice is available via Girona (Spain) which also benefits from cheaper car hire & fuel. Girona is only 65kms from the border. Slightly further away Barcelona and Lyon both offer a wide choice of flights.

The French rail system is generally clean and efficient, but not cheap. The TGV service from Paris to Montpellier takes 3 hours. There is also the option to link with a no change service from Lille to Montpellier taking under 5 hrs. There is a summer service direct from London Waterloo to Avignon.

There are long distance bus services from throughout Europe.
